Mr Chatterjee is an Honours Graduate in Commerce from Calcutta University and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He was born in 1968. Mr. Chatterjee began his career as Industrial Trainee in Britannia Industries and worked as an Audit Senior in S B Billimoria & Company before joining Tata Steel in 1995.

He is currently the Vice President, Finance & Tata Steel Group CFO. In 1999 he was transferred to Tata Sons Limited in the Group Executive Office. He re-joined Tata Steel as Joint Chief Financial Controller (Corporate) in 2003 and was subsequently, designated as Chief Financial Controller (Corporate). With effect from 1st August, 2004 Mr. Chatterjee has been appointed as Vice President (Finance), Tata Steel.

He is on the Board of several companies including Tata Refractories Limited, Tata Services Limited, The Tinplate Company of India Limited, Dharma Port Company Limited, and NatSteel Asia Pte. Limited, Singapore and Southern Steel Berhad, Malaysia.
